Vivian Vong introduces Integrated AlumNI’s new brand identity

When Integrated Alumni approached me to redesign their new logo, I didn’t hesitate for a second. I attended Bridge Integrated Primary and New-Bridge Integrated College and felt that it was time for me to give back to the community and the schools.

Vivian Vong, designer of Integrated AlumNI’s new brand identity

Growing up in a Chinese family and speaking mainly Cantonese, my family knew going to integrated schools that celebrated diversity was the best thing for me. And they were right. Integrated education encouraged open-minded attitudes amongst pupils and it allowed me to build self-esteem and independence as I got older. At school, I was always a visual learner, I was creative, and teachers really helped me express that. After A-levels, I gained an Art Foundation Degree and studied Graphic Design at University of the West of England. Now based in Bristol, I work in a design agency as a middleweight designer, inspiring businesses and brands to be more human. This education experience has built a platform where I can work and be friends with people from different communities and religions all around the world.

The Integrated AlumNI new logo and branding

For the Integrated AlumNI logo, the team wanted to keep the tree and most of the colours. My task was to modernise the logo and bring energy to the charity without making it look like an environmental agency. My vision for this was to create a planted tree with roots, symbolising planting integrated education across Northern Ireland and beyond. The roots are shaped like lightning bolts to show the liveliness and passion of the people involved. I’ve also provided Integrated AlumNI with a simple brand guideline to help the team ensure consistency and demonstrate how to communicate the brand. The Integrated AlumNI team has been great to work with and I’m looking forward to the future for integrated education.
