It’s that time of year again! The Integrated AlumNI are launching our Back to School Roadshow and want you to volunteer!
So what exactly is the Roadshow? What will you be doing as a volunteer? Keeping reading for our complete FAQ guide to all things back to Back to School and (most importantly) how you can get involved!
What is the Back to School Roadshow?
The Back to School Roadshow is the AlumNI’s main outreach event which takes place each year. Members of the AlumNI spend two days visiting Integrated schools all over Northern Ireland and talking to (mainly 6th form) pupils about what their plans for the future are and how the AlumNI can help! It’s a great chance to promote the organisation and provide pupils with connections after they leave school. This year’s roadshow will take place on Thursday 28th and Friday 29th March. This is followed by a celebration meal on the Friday evening before our AGM on Saturday 30th which all members are invited to attend!
What will I do as a volunteer?
Our volunteers are at the heart of Back to School. As a volunteer you will be put into a team and assigned 2-4 schools each over the course of the two days. At the schools, volunteers help to present and facilitate sessions with the pupils. These include an introduction to the AlumNI, ice-breaker games, group discussions and speed mentoring. You’ll have a group leader who has experienced the Roadshow before and are there to help and answer any questions! The main role of the volunteer is to engage with the pupils.
Is it a major commitment?
In terms of time we ask that our volunteers be available for at least one of the two days- we understand that at times people may struggle to get both days free! We also understand that things can come up last minute and unplanned. If this happens and you are no longer able to take part in the Roadshow just let us know.
If you can’t make the Roadshow but are available on Saturday 30th then you would be more than welcome to join us at our AGM! Details for the AGM will be given shortly
Do I have to have gone to an integrated school to volunteer?
No you don’t! While many of us are past pupils of an integrated school, it isn’t a requirement to volunteer-we’re keen to get anyone involved who supports Integrated Education in Northern Ireland
Will I be on my own?
No - as mentioned above you will be in a team with other volunteers. Each team will consist of between 5-7 people and will include an experienced group lead. You will be given your group and school schedule in advance of the Roadshow. Don’t be afraid to ask any questions and if you don’t feel comfortable presenting in front of groups there’s no pressure to do so!
Do I have to be based in Northern Ireland to take part?
Not at all! One of the best parts of the Roadshow is being able to get together AlumNI from across the UK! In previous years we’ve had AlumNI fly in from Scotland, London and Leeds! If you are travelling let us know in the volunteer registration form - we are able to offer a small travel subsidy to cover cost of flights. Get in touch with us if you would like more details on this.
How do I sign up?
Fill in our volunteer registration form here to get started! We’ll take it from there and be in touch with all further details!
