"I first met the Integrated Alumni when they attended my school, Drumragh Integrated College, for their ‘Back to School Roadshow 2016.’ I asked if I could interview them for a Carson Award video about Integration. While I recognised some of them as past pupils from my school, the people I interviewed were strangers but their answers to my questions made such a huge impact on me personally.
I found the Integrated AlumNI again when I started studying Law at Queen’s University, Belfast, in 2017. I was anxious to meet so many new people from different integrated schools, thinking we’d have nothing in common, but they thoroughly surprised me on this occasion as well. I walked away with a group of new friends who I can call confidantes today.
From 2017 onwards I have been appointed the President of the Integrated Society at QUB from 2018-2020; organised and ran events alongside the IEF; built networks and relationships with numerous schools speaking at events for APTIS and working alongside NICIE. I’ve also met dozens of wonderful and inspiring people along the way who’ve given me the confidence to speak up and be proud of who I am and what I’m capable of."
